Peyton's Dr's appt
Whew, what a week! hehe
Our trip to Denver on Thursday was, eh, interesting. Traffic was horrible and it was simply stressful trying to find out way around.
The Dr's appt went well. I have to say first though, that I think Children's Hospital is one of the saddest places to go. Don't get me wrong, the staff there are all extremely helpful and cheery and overall very pleasant, the building itself is decorated nicely and there are all sorts of cool kids things to play with and look at. The sad part is that it's needed in the first place. Seeing little kids (like one year olds) being pulled around in wagons with IV poles, preschoolers coming out of their rooms, but having to wear masks and tape up their IV's, it's just so sad. Makes me so thankful that we have 3 healthy and happy children. My prayers go out to those that have more than just little visits there like we did.
After a 2 hour wait, we found out that Peyton's femur bones are twisted. He's "normal" from the knee down, but his femurs are so turned in that he can twist his legs in so that his knees are nearly backwards, but can barely turn them out. Unfortunately the only way to correct this is with major surgery to his legs. Fortunately, unless it becomes extremely painful for him, it's not needed. It won't affect his growth, and shouldn't be painful. There are conflicting reports as to whether or not it puts extra wear on his knees, but the dr said even if it did, he didn't feel like it's worth going through that surgery. The examination itself even was quite interesting, seeing the way his legs can move! As far as Peyton walking on the inside of his foot, it's all about his arches. The arch supports we purchased at walmart before just aren't hefty enough, so he got fitted for some custom supports while we were there, and they'll be mailed to us in a few weeks. We're so glad that nothing major has to be done. It would be a very long and painful process for Peyton to have that surgery done, and hopefully we can avoid it all together. It sounds like something that he'll just have to deal with, but should be able to live a normal life (minus running, as that's usually harder for kids with this condition - luckily he's loving golf and that requires only walking!).
It was a long and stressful day - we got home at 10pm - but it did make us thankful for many things, from health, to a quiet little town to come home to!
