When it rains it pours..........or blizzards..........
Not that there isn't anything else going on in our lives to write about, but first and foremost at this moment is the weather............
We are supposed to be leaving tomorrow morning (Thursday) for my little brother's wedding, and wouldn't ya know it, we're under a blizzard warning from this evening through Thursday evening! Now, most people with regular 9-5 jobs could just say, hey, I'm leaving tonight, but Mike is on 2-10pm shift, which means we would leave in the heavy snow/blizzard.
Please pray that somehow we can make it there safely and in time!!!
I think our new normal is "crazy". Here was the last email update on Peyton:
Well, interesting…..
Our first 5 day set of going dairy free went well. Peyton adapted to the soy milk well, and didn’t complain at all about what he had to eat – his only complaint was that he had to take a cold lunch every day.
We didn’t notice any huge differences while off of dairy, but the day that he was on dairy, oh my. Poor kid. He was in the bathroom 5 times (and his system is still irritated), like clockwork after eating. His tummy was upset, he got congested, and he told us (without us even asking, didn’t even think about it?!?!) that his throat felt funny. We’re thinking it was swollen/swelling. That was on Saturday, and while most of the symptoms are gone, as I said, his tummy is still not completely settled down. We DID bombard him with dairy though – cereal with regular milk (of which he couldn’t eat an entire bowl) and a DanActive for breakfast, then mid morning he had a glass of chocolate milk. Lunch consisted of a milk/cheese based soup and croissants (which also have dairy). Mid afternoon he had cake (with milk, as well as the frosting had milk in it), cream cheese mints, and punch that had sherbet in it (contains dairy). Supper was bbq meatballs (which have evaporated milk in it), cottage cheese, dressed up mashed potatoes (milk, butter, cream cheese, sour cream, cheese).
If he does indeed have a milk allergy, then the next day he can have dairy (Friday) will probably bring on an even worse reaction, having been off of dairy more days than on recently.
Jewish called last week and we were able to switch from an out of state program (which is why we would have to stay 7 days, it’s designed for folks that, for example, fly in from the east coast and can’t come back easily) to a day program. This would mean that we would have a few day-long trips. Right now we are scheduled to see Dr Carol at 8:30am on November 5th. The hope is that having an early appointment will allow for a day full of testing. Unless some of the tests that day will be behavioral (they really do examine every angle of how allergies and asthma affect a person’s life!) then we will just leave uber early and drive home that evening. Mom was able to take off and keep the girls the night before and that day. We’re praying for financial guidance(from up above) with this appointment as we will have to pay our share of the co-insurance upfront. We’re also hoping that maybe we can schedule the next day visit the day before his tonsillectomy (maybe we could get so lucky? Hehe).
Anyway, that’s the latest. Will keep you updated as we go through this dairy experiment and such J
Thanks again for the many prayers – they are much appreciated!!!
